Trails Re-Open and Condon Mountain Fire Area Closure Shrinks
Incident: Condon Mountain Fire Wildfire
Released: 10/9/2012
Favorable weather conditions assisted firefighters in managing the Condon Mountain Fire in recent days leading to trails being re-opened, the area closure being reduced, and resources being released.
The boundaries of the Area Closure around the Condon Mountain Fire for public safety have been adjusted. The southern boundary of the closure is now Cooney Creek, with areas south of the creek now open. National Forest System Road (NFSR) 901 is now open and serves as the new western boundary of the closure. East Foothill Trail 192 is open. The Little Salmon Trail 29 is open to Smith Creek Pass from the east, but the Smith Creek Trail between the pass and the Smith Creek Trailhead remains closed.
For the purpose of the order, it is prohibited to be on any National Forest System Trail, or within the boundaries of the Condon Mountain Fire Area Closure. For more information, see the attached Area Closure map, or contact the Swan Lake Ranger Station at (406) 837-7500.
The current Type 3 team is scheduled to transition to a Type 4 team on Thursday, October 11, 2012. The fire will be monitored by the Type 4 team with a Type 6 engine and its crew. The Flathead Hotshots and a helicopter are scheduled to demobilize tomorrow.
The Flathead National Forest and the fire management teams appreciate the Condon community's patience, understanding and support throughout the duration of the fire.
