Whitehawk Complex News Release

Whitehawk Complex Update - Sept 4 Final Update

Incident: Whitehawk Complex Wildfire
Released: 9/4/2010

Lowman, Idaho - September 4, 2010 - The Whitehawk fire is now 100% contained and crews have worked the Casner fire to 75% containment. Smoke and tree torching was minimal yesterday and infrared detection showed an overall reduction in hot spots throughout the burn. Smoke may still be visible in the coming weeks as crews work to extinguish residual smoldering.

The majority of ground forces will be released today and tomorrow. The Type 2 Incident Management Team (Wilde) is transferring command of the fire back to the Lowman Ranger District type 4 team tomorrow at 6:00 a.m. Fire vehicles will be active on the roads, so fire managers are asking the public to maintain safe speeds and to approach blind corners with caution.

The Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) over fire area will stay in effect to preserve the safety of remaining fire aircraft. However, the Bruce Meadows Airstrip, outside the TFR, is scheduled to open by 9 a.m. today. The closure of roads 502 and 569 will stay in effect, but the closure will be re-evaluated on a day-to-day basis. For the latest information on closures, contact the Lowman Ranger District at (208) 259-3361.

This will be the final release/update unless significant new fire activity occurs.
