9-4 Final Boise Fire Update

Boise, ID - All fires started by the intense lightning storm 10 days ago across the Boise National Forest and SW Idaho Department of Lands are rapidly being demobilized. Yesterday the Hurd Fire Type 2 Incident Management Team returned home, and on Sunday the Type 2 IMT managing the Harris Complex will also return home.

Whitehawk Complex - The Type 2 Incident Management Team at the Whitehawk Complex, 15 miles north of Lowman in the Bear Valley area, will be demobilized on Sunday. The majority of ground forces will be released today and tomorrow.

The 335 acre Whitehawk Fire is 100 percent contained. The Casner fire is 75 percent contained. Smoke and tree torching was minimal yesterday and infrared detection showed an overall reduction in hot spots throughout the burn. Smoke may still be visible in the coming weeks as crews work to extinguish residual smoldering.

Closures - The Temporary Flight Restrictions over the Whitehawk Complex fire area will remain, but the Bruce Meadows airstrip is now open. The closure of Forest Service roads 502 and 569 will stay in effect.

The area closure in the Little Beaver Complex has been lifted for both the Boise National Forest portion and the portion within the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness. The Salmon-Challis National Forest though will retain trail closures on the entire length of the Porter Creek Trail (047) and the West Fork Elk Creek Trail (006). The North Fork Elk Creek Trail (029) will be closed from its junction with the Porter Creek Trail to its junction with the Camptender Trail (040).
