Eightmile Lake Trail Restrictions Lifted
Leavenworth, Washington-The three wilderness fires located on the Wenatchee River Ranger District of the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest were significantly dampened by cool temperatures and precipitation this week.
Fire managers are confident that the decrease in fire activity is enough to lift the Eightmile Lake trail closures effective today. This is good news for the many campers and hikers who were planning to recreate in this area over the Labor Day weekend.
The Eightmile Lake Fire is estimated at 200 acres. Terrain has sheltered the fire area from several significant wind storms and with moisture and cool temperatures, the fire is not expected to grow and will continue to decrease in activity. Incident Commander, Kevin Smith said, "We will continue to monitor the fire till it's out, and people in the area will see smoke most likely till November. This is normal behavior for wilderness fires."
Ibex Fire remains at 65 acres and burns within the interior of the fire perimeter. Strong cloud cover, cooler temperatures and some precipitation are keeping fire activity to a minimum. The Mt David Trail #1521 remains closed for public safety.
Thunder Basin Fire remains 75-100 acres in size and the fire behavior is similar to the Ibex Fire, burning in mosaic patterns within the fire perimeter. The PCT Trail is not impacted by the Ibex fire, but a travel advisory for the White River Trail #1507 remains in effect. The advisory alerts people that there is wildfire in the vicinity and to be aware of potential for changing conditions. People are advised to not travel on the trail.
