Birthday Incident on the Modoc National Forest
At approximately 5:00 P.M. on July 28, 2010 a lightning caused fire started 10 miles southwest of Davis Creek, CA. Throughout the early evening the fire grew to 147 acres, but through the use of five aerial tankers, one Type 1 helicopter, a strike force of engines and three handcrews, a retardant and hand line was 60% completed last night and Modoc Fire Management Officer Dave McMaster says he "expects the fire to be contained by 8:00 P.M. this evening".
Nor-Cal Team 1, led by Incident Commander Kent Swartzlander has gained control of the Modoc Lightning Complex fire and has returned operational control of the incident to the Modoc National Forest.
The team is currently demobilizing and relocating to work on the McDonald Fire, a lightning-sparked wildfire near the community of Termo in northern Lassen County, California, which has grown to an estimated 7,000 acres.
