Progress Continues on Constantia Fire
Good progress was made today in the containment of the 1,495 acre Constantia Fire Complex near Doyle, CA. The acreage is reduced because of more accurate mapping. Containment is now estimated at 51 percent.
John Kidd, Incident Commander of the team brought in to manage the fire said; "The folks working on this fire put in a long hard day and the results are showing. We're not done, but if the weather holds we'll continue to make good progress."
Efforts today involved strengthening of the existing containment line and starting to mop-up areas along the north and east portions of the fire. Structure protection remains in place and a portion of the resources available were dedicated to initial attack of any new starts. The area was placed under a Red Flag Watch, meaning conditions were right for rapid fire growth should a new ignition occur.
The Constantia Fire began on Saturday evening July 24 as a dry lightning storm passed through starting several fires in the Diamond Mountains.
Heavy air tankers were available but not needed today. Eight helicopters were used to make bucket drops on hot spots and do aerial reconnaissance of the fire area.
A total of 450 people are assigned to this fire. Nine engines, 3 water tenders, and 1 dozer is engaged. Two heavy, 3 medium and 3 light helicopters were assigned today.
