Packer Meadows Fire Update – 8/02

Incident: Packer Meadows Fire Wildfire
Released: 8/2/2010

Missoula, MT. August 2, 1 p.m. - The Packer Meadows Fire has increased to 135 acres due to spot fires, but firefighters have contained approximately 75 percent of fire activity and expect to have the main fire as well as numerous spot fires contained by August 4. Three crews were released yesterday and two remain on the fire.

The heavy precipitation that arrived in the Missoula area over the weekend for the most part missed the Packer Meadows Fire area. The fire itself only received light precipitation, according to fire managers.

Firefighters today will continue to mop up the interior of the main fire and also build fireline and mop up around the numerous spot fires.

Three closure orders remain in place to ensure public safety. The orders close to the public the following:

Lee Creek Campground approximately two miles south of Lolo Hot Springs

North Lost Park Road (#2194) approximately three miles northeast of Lolo Pass at its junction with road # 2195

Lee Ridge Trail #295 at the beginning of the trail three miles south of Lolo Hot Springs to the Montana/Idaho border For additional information on the closure orders please see the Packer Meadows Fire incident at: http://www.inciweb.org/incident/2040/ Approximately 47 firefighters remain assigned to the suppression of the fire, which was lightning-caused. No structures or property are threatened by the fire. For additional information please call (406) 329-1024.
