Eagle Rock Fire Update 10pm

Incident: Eagle Rock Wildfire
Released: 6/17/2010

Eagle Rock Fire Update, 6/17/10, 10:00 p.m.

WILLIAMS, Az - Calmer winds aided suppression efforts Thursday, and firefighters have made progress on the Eagle Rock Fire. It is approximately 3,400 acres and 30% contained.

Power has been restored to the Spring Valley residential area, however evacuations remain in affect. No new evacuations are being considered. A public meeting is being planned for tomorrow at 6 p.m. at the Maine Consolidated School in Parks.

The Northern Arizona Type 2 Incident Management Team assumed command of the fire Thursday morning. Three hundred sixteen personnel are assigned to the fire including hotshot crews, engines, water tenders, and four helicopters. Two air tankers and one Lead Plane are on standby for tomorrow. Fire managers were able to utilize air resources Thursday because of the slightly lower winds. Air support will continue to be used as necessary when weather allows.

The Eagle Rock Fire is located approximately 11 miles northeast of Williams northeast of Sitgreaves Mountain. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Kaibab Lake on the Williams Ranger District is closed to boating due to fire operations. The east side of the lake is closed to fishing. However, it remains open for camping.
