Released: 6/24/2010
WILLIAMS, Ariz. - Fire crews continue to work on the Eagle Rock Fire, 11 miles northeast of Williams. The 3,420-acre fire is 90 percent contained. Smoke may be visible at times as logs and stumps within the perimeter continue to smolder.
Thursday's operations will concentrate on mop-up and patrolling for hot spots. This includes reinforcing existing containment lines and extinguishing any lingering embers.
The area around the fire is still closed for entry to the public. The public should be aware of possible hazards in the area. Hazards including falling trees, burning or smoldering stump holes, rolling rocks and boulders, unstable slopes and hill sides.
Fire restrictions are in effect on the Kaibab National Forest as of Wednesday, June 23. Due to high fire danger, these restrictions are deemed necessary to protect public health and safety and prevent human-caused wildfires.
Under these fire restrictions, campfires, charcoal, coal or wood stoves are allowed in developed campgrounds only. The restrictions also limit smoking to within enclosed vehicles, buildings or in developed campgrounds. Pressurized liquid or gas stoves, lanterns, and heaters meeting safety specifications are allowed.
