CUTOFF WILDFIRE UPDATE
Fire Name: Cutoff Fire

Location: 20 miles SSW of Queen, NM
Cause: Lightning
Fuels: Grasses with shrub component, Pinyon Juniper Stand, litter and understory
Size: 10,272 acres
% Contained: 50
Resources Committed: 7 Type 1 Hotshot Crews, 5 Type 2 Crews, 16 Engines, 13 Water Tenders, 2 Type 2 Helicopters, 3 Type 3 Helicopters, Airtankers and lead planes are available through Alamagordo Dispatch and Overhead personnel from the New Mexico Type 2 Incident Management Team.
Predicted Weather for Tuesday: Increasing clouds with a slight chance of afternoon thunderstorms. Slight chance of rain showers on the eastern side. Temperatures will be around 86 and 25% humidity. East winds of 5 to 12 mph with erractic gusts near showers or storms.
Structures: 2 structures are threatened on McKittrick trail. No structures have been lost to-date.
Updated Campground Information: The Dog Canyon area and most park backcountry trails are currently closed for public safety. The Pine Springs and Guadalupe Peak areas are unaffected, but visitors should obtain current closure information from the Pine Springs Visitor Center before venturing into the park. Due to the high fire danger and limited fire-fighting resources, smoking and the use of camp stoves are restricted to hard surfaced areas and designated campsites.
Summary: Yesterday and last night there was active fire behavior on the east side of the fire. Today's plans include using aerial resources to slow the spread of the fire, while fire fighters contine to build line, mop up, and rehab. One injury was reported due to a puncture wound. There may continue to be smoke impacts in low lying areas in the late evening and early morning hours.
