Incident: Az Wildfire Incident Management Academy Wildfire
Released: 3/13/2010

PRESCOTT, Ariz. - Firefighters at the 2010 Arizona Wildfire Academy will implement a prescribed burn at the Nature Center in Prescott as part of a fuels reduction plan. The 18-acre project will involve the burning of accumulated slash piles and is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. March 18, 2010 weather dependent.

The project is part of an ongoing effort to remove hazardous fuels buildup to help protect nearby residential subdivisions, Granite Mountain Middle School and local businesses in the event of a severe wildfire. The burn also provides important hands-on field training for students at the Arizona Wildfire Academy.

The exercise is a culmination of planning, ignition and firefighter training. Students build the burn, ignition and holding plans and initiate the burn under the supervision of experienced wildland fire instructors. Additional preparations will include using hoselays and fire engines as needed to prevent fire spread.

There will be an information station located in the Abia Judd Elementary parking lot on Williamson Valley road near the burn on Thursday. If you have any questions, please call Punky Moore, Arizona Wildfire Academy Public Information Officer, at 928-777-3473 or 530-228-0299.
