Fire location: North and west of Lytle Creek, south and west of Highway 138, south of Wrightwood

Date/time started: October 3, 2009, 2:11pm

Total acres burned: 7,128

Percent contained: 85%

Expected containment: 10/10/2009

Expected control: not determined

Suppression costs to date: $7,560,000

Structures damaged/destroyed: 5

Cause: Under Investigation

Staffing: 42 Engines, 21 Crews, 2 Dozers, 6 Air Tankers, 5 Helicopters, 23 Water Tenders

Total Personnel: 882

Terrain/vegetation/difficulties: Six foot chaparral, timber and brush.

Current situation: Firefighters will focus their efforts on securing the line and mopping-up hot spots today. Fire suppression repair and rehabilitation is ongoing and progress is being made. Demobilization of resources will continue as the full containment draws closer.

Evacuations, Closures and Road Status: A Forest Closure Order has been issued for the Sheep Fire by the San Bernardino National Forest and prohibits public from entering the burn area. The closure order is in effect from October 8, 2009 until November 8, 2009. For specific details on the closure order refer to the above inciweb address or www.fs.fed.us/r5/sanbernardino/conditions. Lone Pine Canyon Road will remain closed until further notice. The Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) is also closed from Interstate 15 to the 14 freeway. Hikers on the PCT may use state highway 138 as an alternate route.
