Williams, AZ - October 5, 2009. 9:30 p.m. The Twin Fire, one mile southwest of the City of Williams is 921 acres. Decreased fire behavior has allowed for a more accurate assessment of overall fire size, resulting in the reduction in acreage. The fire is 20% contained. Two minor injuries occurred today.

Today, personnel completed and reinforced fireline around the perimeter of the fire. On Tuesday, firefighters will continue to improve containment lines. Structure protection remains in place. Resources assigned to the Twin Fire include 4 helicopters, 5 Hot Shot Crews, 2 Hand Crews, 25 engines, 3 dozers and 5 water tenders.

An air quality monitoring station has been installed in Williams. To view real time data, go to http://www.satguard.com/usfs/. Under the Real Time tab, click on Unit Number, then click on Williams to view air quality data.

The forecast calls for lighter winds and slightly higher temperatures. Smoke may be present along portions of Interstate 40 and in the City of Williams. Please use caution traveling through the area.

Closures associated with the fire include Bill Williams Mountain and Kaibab Lake Recreation Area.

The Williams Elementary/Middle School and Williams High School will be open Tuesday.
