Santa Fe Watershed Prescribed Burn Afternoon Update 09/29/09
Incident: Santa Fe Watershed Prescribed Burn Prescribed Fire
Released: 9/29/2009
Fire managers on the Espanola Ranger District have stopped hand ignitions in the Santa Fe Watershed for today.
Today, fire managers completed approximately 150-acres of blacklining (pre-burning of woody material on the ground adjacent to control lines) on the north/northeast side of the project area.
Tomorrow, if weather conditions are favorable, fire managers will continue to treat the remaining 700-acres with hand and aerial ignitions. Fire managers will continue to blackline the southeast perimeter of the project area, while beginning aerial ignitions in the north part of the project area. Tomorrow's burning activities may involve a greater area with more fuels; therefore, more smoke is expected to be produced. Forecasted ventilation conditions for tomorrow are excellent.
This evening smoke will begin settling into drainage areas; however will lift by mid-morning when the sun rises. Residents near the Santa Fe River and near low-lying areas may wish to keep their windows closed tonight.
Tomorrow, smoke from the burn will be very visible from the City of Santa Fe, Tesuque, from I-25, and to the east toward Glorieta and Pecos.
Smoke will be monitored and the Forest Service will comply with NM air quality regulations.
