Baldy Wildland Fire Update

Incident: Baldy Wildfire
Released: 9/28/2009

Baldy Wildland Fire Update Smoke will be visible from the Baldy Wildland Fire west of Lakeside as firefighters manage the fire with fire. There are some "fingers" of the fire on the northwest corner that firefighters will burn out. This suppression activity will help manage the fire by consuming fuel between the edge of the fire and control lines. Additional fire crews arrived late Sunday evening and are assisting with suppression activities, including building line around the perimeter of the fire. The fire is about 220 acres and is approximately 60% contained. There is much fire traffic and onlookers are reminded to stay out of the general fire area for safety precautions. There are several road blocks in place and the public is asked to please respect accordingly. The pre-evacuation notice issued over the weekend by the Flathead County Sheriff's Office is still in effect. This notice is a warning for residents to be prepared to evacuate in the near future if conditions warrant. The shelter that was established at the Somers Middle School is closed. Another shelter will be identified it the need arises. There will be a public meeting at 6pm tonight at the Lakeside Community Chapel. For more information please visit www.inciweb.org
