ARNICA FIRE
Probable Start Date: September 13, 2009Reported: September 23, 2009 Cause: Lightning Estimated Size:8300 acres
IMPACTS TO VISITORS AND AREA RESIDENTS: For safety reasons the road betweentheJunction at Fishing Bridge and West Thumb will remain closed throughout thenight and possibly intotomorrow. The fire is currently burning up to the road. Crews will beworking to remove hazardousburned snags on and along the side of the road as soon as it can be donesafely.
Smoky conditions will affect air quality today and are likely to continuetomorrow.
Individuals with weakened immune systems and those with heart and lungconditions could bemost affected.
LOCATION: Two miles northwest of Bridge Bay with small spot fires withinone mile of BridgeBay.
OVERVIEW: The lightning-caused fire is burning in a flat area of maturelodgepole pineforest and is estimated at 8300 acres.
TOMORROW'S FORECAST: Sunny, highs in the mid 60s with relative humidity10-15%. Variablewinds 5 - 9 mph becoming southwest around 12 mph with higher gusts after1:00 PM.
