Gird End Fire - September 15th

Incident: Gird End Wildfire
Released: 9/15/2009

Gird End

September 15, 2009

Hamilton, MT - The Gird End Fire, located on a ridgeline approximately 1 1/2 miles southwest of Skalkaho Mountain, was relatively active over the weekend, growing to 120 acres in size. Most of the growth was to the south into a basin just below the ridge line. Growth slowed considerably on Monday, with the addition of only a few acres, and little additional expansion was expected today with similar, minor growth anticipated over the next few days as cooler temperatures prevail.

Minor smoke from the Gird End Fire can be seen from the valley floor as the fire moves into dense pockets of fuel. The area from the Gird Point Lookout north to the vermiculite mine and south and east to the Skalkaho Highway remains closed to public use while the fire is actively burning.
