Public-Use Restrictions Lifted on Umpqua National Forest
ROSEBURG, OREGON - September 29, 2009 - Effective September 30th at 1 a.m., all areas within the boundaries of the Umpqua National Forest will enter an Industrial Fire Precaution Level (IFPL) II with a rating of moderate fire danger. Effective immediately, public-use restrictions for the Umpqua National Forest are lifted.
Precaution level II, or "partial hoot-owl", prohibits blasting, welding, cable yarding or the use of power saws except at loading sites, from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The restrictions apply to all contractors and permit holders working on the Umpqua National Forest, including those with permits to cut personal-use firewood. While the industrial fire precaution level doesn't apply to recreation users, visitors are encouraged to be cautious with fire while in the woods.
"We received 0.15 inches or less of rain during the last 24 hours on the Umpqua National Forest," said Steve Baccigalupo, acting deputy fire management staff officer for the Umpqua National Forest. "Considering there are three large fires, two on the Umpqua and one nearby, we are gradually moving to a lower fire precaution level.
Visitors are urged to be careful with campfires while on the Forest.
