Boze and Rainbow Creek Fire Area Closures
The Umpqua National Forest has issued an emergency area closure for the Boze and Rainbow Creek Fires to provide for public health and safety due to active fire and extreme fire conditions until December 21, 2009 or sooner if rescinded. Approximately 155,000 acres (15.7% of the entire Umpqua NF) on the North Umpqua, Diamond Lake, and Tiller Ranger Districts are closed. This includes any road, trail, trailhead, recreation site, or campground within the closure area, as described in the narrative below. However, 830,000 acres of the forest remain open for recreation.
The public is cautioned to be aware of increased fire suppression traffic on forest roads around the fire closure area. Also, there may be periods of heavy smoke from the two fires that could impact sight distances while driving near the fire area.
A map of the fire closure area and the entire closure order is available on the Umpqua National Forest web site at: http://www.fs.fed.us/r6/umpqua/conditions/forest-orders/index.shtml.
