Incident: San Isabel Complex Wildfire
Released: 9/10/2009

CANON CITY, CO Sept.9, 2009 Three lightning caused fires continue to burn in remote areas of Custer and Fremont County in the San Isabel National Forest, San Carlos and Salida Ranger District. Steady, light rain fell Tuesday afternoon on all three fires.

Johnson Gulch Fire is located 9 miles southwest of Wetmore, CO, in Custer County. Contingency lines on the north and west side of Johnson Gulch were completed by fire crews over the Labor Day weekend and will support the protection of private land located west of the fire perimeter.

The fire is about 33 acres in size, and fire behavior on this fire is described as minimal.

Holt Fire is located 4 miles southwest of Wetmore, CO, in Custer County. Smoke continues to be visible periodically, during the warmer portions of the day. The fire is now estimated to be two acres in size and will continue to be monitored daily from the air.

Middle Ridge Fire is located 6 miles southwest of Coaldale, CO, in Fremont County. This fire is now being managed by the Salida Ranger District. For more information please contact the Salida Ranger District at 719-539-3591.

These fires are all lightning caused, and are being managed to achieve multiple objectives while providing for public and firefighter safety. This management strategy allows fire to play its natural role and reduce fuel buildups. All fires continue to be monitored and patrolled.

"Things are looking good out there. The fire behavior will be determined by the weather." Bob Ayotte, Incident Commander.
