Firefighters Prepare for Hot Day on Eagle Mount Fire

The Eagle Mount fire continues to burn in timber, sagebrush and grass 2-4 miles northwest of Columbus, Montana. An Incident Management Team was briefed on the fire this morning. Here are current statistics:

Size: 1200 acres all on private land

Cause: Under Investigation

Fire Behavior: the fire is actively burning, with some single tree torching. The terrain is mostly rolling hills with some steep ravines.

Resources Assigned: Currently there are 18 engines, 2 water tenders, 2 dozers and Air Operations which may include the use of helicopters, single-engine airtankers and heavy airtankers, if needed. An estimated 200 personnel are currently working on the Eagle Mount Fire.

Evacuations: Evacuation notices remain in effect for homes in the Eagle Mountain Ranch and Columbus Heights. For information, please contact the Stillwater County DES for the most current information regarding evacuations at (406) 322-8065.
