Williams Ranger Dist. Projects News Release

Pile Burning to Continue Monday

Incident: Williams Ranger Dist. Projects Prescribed Fire
Released: 12/11/2009

WILLIAMS, Ariz. - Pile burning is scheduled to continue next week on the Kaibab National Forest as conditions allow. Fire managers are requesting approval to burn Monday, Dec. 14, on the following projects on the Williams Ranger District.

South Side Piles - 100 acres, located approximately five miles east of Williams, south of I- 40 near Beacon Hill.

North Side Piles - 100 acres, located seven miles north of Parks, near Government Hill

Moonset Pit - 15 acres, just west of Parks off Route 66

Three Sisters Pit - 15 acres, three miles northwest of Williams

On Monday, fire crews will decide which piles to burn depending on wind direction and ventilation. All pile burning is contingent on Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) approval and appropriate weather conditions. Smoke may be present along portions of I-40, sections of County Road 141 and may settle into local areas overnight.

We understand that smoke created while we accomplish our prescribed burning projects impacts our community. We appreciate your tolerance to some smoke now in order to reduce the future occurrence of severe wildfires.
