Williams Ranger Dist. Projects News Release

Pile Burning Planned Thursday

Incident: Williams Ranger Dist. Projects Prescribed Fire
Released: 12/9/2009

WILLIAMS, Ariz. - As a continuation of our prescribed fire program, fire managers are requesting approval to burn slash piles Thursday, Dec. 10, on the Williams Ranger District. Pending Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) approval and appropriate weather conditions, Kaibab National Forest personnel are planning to ignite piles eleven miles east of Williams, just south of I-40.

The slash piles are near Horse Hill and total approximately 40 acres. The recent snowfall will diminish the potential for fire to spread.

Officials expect smoke to drift northeast with light smoke impacts to the surrounding areas of Pineaire Estates, Garland Prairie and Sherwood Forest Estates.

We understand that smoke created while we accomplish our prescribed burning projects impacts our community. We appreciate your tolerance to some smoke now in order to reduce the future occurrence of severe wildfires.

For more information on Kaibab National Forest burning, please contact Punky Moore (928-635-5653).
