Williams Ranger Dist. Projects News Release

Burning Near Spring Valley Rescheduled for Friday

Incident: Williams Ranger Dist. Projects Prescribed Fire
Released: 9/3/2009

WILLIAMS, Ariz - Fire managers with the Kaibab National Forest announce pile burning will occur on the Williams Ranger District Friday, Sept. 4, depending on conditions and Arizona Department of Environmental Quality approval. Personnel will burn approximately 100 acres of slash piles near Spring Valley, north of I-40 and eight miles north of Parks.

The piles were scheduled for ignition on Thursday; however, not enough moisture was received to carry out the burn. Currently, the piles are receiving precipitation and managers are prepared to implement the project tomorrow. Smoke is expected to drift to the northeast. Managers anticipate smoke impacts to Forest Roads 141 and 144 and surrounding areas.

We understand that smoke created while we accomplish our prescribed burning projects impacts people in our community. We appreciate your tolerance to some smoke now in order to reduce the future occurrence of severe wildfires.

Forest fire crews will patrol the piles to monitor spread. Smoke may be present for several days after ignition.
