Daily Update

The Oregon Department of Forestry's Incident Management Team #3, Incident Commander Nancy Hirsch, will turn the fire over to a local fire management organization at 2:00 p.m. today. The transition team will be a unified command structure between ODF and the USFS Columbia River Gorge National Scenic area. The incident command post will remain at the Hood River Fairgrounds.

The 1,225 acre fire is 90% contained. All burnout operations were completed along the north flank of the fire Monday night. Mop up operations will continue today. Mop up objectives are to cool hot spots 300 feet in from containment lines.

While several fire crews and equipment are leaving the fire, a number firefighting resources remain in the area. The public is encouraged to remain alert and slow down for emergency vehicles and firefighters.

The State Historic Columbia River Highway Trail remains closed due to rolling material and falling snags (dead trees).

Cooperators include Oregon State Police, Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area of the U.S. Forest Service, Oregon State Parks, Oregon Department of Transportation, Pacific Power and Light, Union Pacific Railroad, the Red Cross and Rural Fire Districts.
