Daily Update
The Oregon Department of Forestry's Incident Management Team #3, Incident Commander Nancy Hirsch, assumed full command of the Microwave Fire Sunday afternoon when the threat to the Mosier community lessened and the Oregon State Fire Marshal's Office demobilized.
The fire has reached 75% containment. The burned area of the fire is about 1,225 acres.
Fire crews discovered a small spot fire (20' x 20') outside the fire line last night that had burned under a road through a culvert. Burnout operations will continue today on the north end of the fire to remove unburned pockets near the fire line. Heavy mop up activities are also continuing to secure containment lines around the fire's perimeter.
With several firefighting resources still in the area, the public is encouraged to remain alert and slow down for emergency vehicles and firefighters.
The State Historic Columbia River Highway Trail remains closed due to rolling material and falling snags (dead trees).
Cooperators include Oregon State Police, Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area of the U.S. Forest Service, Oregon State Parks, Oregon Department of Transportation, Pacific Power and Line, Union Pacific Railroad, the Red Cross and Rural Fire Districts.
The Incident Management Team, Oregon State Fire Marshal's Office, Central Oregon District of the Oregon Department of Forestry and U.S. Forest Service would also like to recognize and thank the several volunteers from Mosier and beyond that worked tirelessly during the fire suppression effort.
