State Route 74 to Re-Open Approx. 8 AM Sunday

Incident: Cottonwood Wildfire
Released: 8/29/2009

State Route 74 is open to residents with ID Saturday Night, Highway Expected to Fully Re-Open at 8 AM Sunday

Due to the increased fire activity this afternoon near State Route 74, incident commanders have announced the road closure on State Route 74 from Valle Vista to Highway 243, Mountain Center, will remain in effect until 8am on Sunday, August 30. Keeping the road closed overnight will allow night crews to safely work the area doing mop up and patrol, ensuring best possible conditions for vehicular traffic once the road reopens.

Travelers are advised to use Hwy 243 from Interstate 10.

The Highway has been closed since Thursday night when the Cottonwood fire burned on both sides of the highway and damaged highway guardrails posing a safety hazard to the motoring public.

Once lifted, State Route 74 will be completely open. After the highway reopens, motorists are urged to drive cautiously and be alert for fire apparatus and equipment traveling State Route 74.
