Red Rock and Harrington Fire Updates:
Etna, CA -The Red Rock Fire, burning in the Marble Mountain Wilderness, is currently 1,373 acres and 75% contained. Crews continue to hold, maintain, and monitor the fire lines. Snags remain a concern and fallers will be busy today working along the northwestern flank and will fall trees that present a risk to personnel or that could cross containment lines. Excess fire crews and equipment will continue to be released as fire managers adjust to meeting containment objectives.
Today, temperatures across the fire area are expected to increase slightly. The amount of precipitation received yesterday over the fire was not measurable and will be mostly evaporated by mid-day. Minimal amounts of smoke are anticipated from this fire since burnout operations have been completed.
The Harrington Fire, burning in the Siskiyou Wilderness remains at 142 acres and 90% contained. Firefighters have had great success in extinguishing smokes within the interior and perimeter of the fire. Fire crews continue to patrol the fire and mop up any hot spots they find. Full containment is expected by this afternoon.
The Klamath National Forest has issued closure orders for roads, trailheads, trails, and an area around the fire to provide for public safety during the Red Rock Fire. A section of the Pacific Crest Trail has also been closed. For further information, please refer to the map contained on the Inciweb website: http://www.inciweb.org/incident/1845/.
