Harrington Fire Update for Friday, August 28, 2009 at 08:00
Incident: Harrington Fire Wildfire
Released: 8/28/2009
Red Rock and Harrington Fire Updates:
Etna, CA -Burnout operations have been completed in the western portion of the 1,277 acre Red Rock Fire. It is now considered 75% contained as crews continue to monitor the western flanks for hot spots and flare-ups. An infra-red photograph was taken of the fire area late yesterday afternoon that shows most of the heat signatures, or fire activity is located near the western end where the recent burnout operation was conducted. The remaining part of the fire will be monitored and patrolled for the next few days. Crews will be actively mopping-up all burning material on the western flank. Fire crews will also begin repairing damage caused by fire-suppression activities within the Marble Mountain Wilderness and removing any excess fire equipment.
Temperatures have cooled significantly from yesterday and fuel moistures have increased. Overcast skies cover the fire area and crews will take advantage of these conditions as they continue to contain this fire.
The Harrington Fire is burning in the Siskiyou Wilderness, east of Harrington Mountain and is now estimated at 142 acres and 80% contained. The reduction in acres is due to more accurate mapping techniques. Fire crews are monitoring the progress of the fire and mopping up all hot spots within the fire perimeter. There are no private lands or structures immediately threatened by either fire.
The Klamath National Forest has issued closure orders for roads, trailheads, trails, and an area around the fire to provide for public safety during the Red Rock Fire. A section of the Pacific Crest Trail has also been closed. For further information, please refer to the map contained on the Inciweb website: http://www.inciweb.org/incident/1845/. The Forest is reviewing opening parts of the closures as soon as possible.
