Red Rock and Harrington Fire Updates:
Etna, CA - The Red Rock fire is 65% contained and has grown to 1,222 acres. The hand and aerial burnout operation has successfully progressed slowly downslope toward Canyon Creek with 1,000 feet of hillside remaining. If favorable weather conditions remain, helicopters and firefighters will continue the burnout operation, slowly contouring their way downward toward the creek. Smoke is expected to remain out of the valley and move northward. Crews continue to search for hot spots and mop up the eastern side of the fire.
Little to no active fire activity occurred yesterday on the Harrington Fire. The fire remains at 165 acres. Crews are mopping up, moving farther into the interior and checking for heat. Helicopters assist as needed. The fire is currently 75% contained.
The Klamath National Forest has issued closure orders for roads, trailheads, trails, and an area around the fire to provide for public safety during the Red Rock Fire. A section of the Pacific Crest Trail has also been closed. For further information, please refer to the map contained on the Inciweb website: http://www.inciweb.org/incident/1845/.
