Fire Name: Taylor Fire Time/Date Started: Sighted at 6 a.m. on August 16, 2009 Location: Twenty-two miles southwest of Flagstaff, Arizona in Sycamore Wilderness on the Coconino National Forest Cause: Under investigation Fuels: Ponderosa pine, bug kill trees, pinon-juniper, brush Size: 3545 acres Percent Contained: 95 percent Resources Committed: 2 hotshot crews, 4 regular crews, one Type 3 helicopter, 7 engines, and 10 water tenders. 298 total fire personnel. Predicted Weather: Winds: 10 mph out of the south. Relative humidity: 29 percent. Temperature: 73-84 degrees. Yesterday's fire behavior: No significant fire behavior was observed. Residual fuels were smoldering. Closures: Hunting season began Friday, August 21, 2009. Hunters in area 6B need to be aware of the following emergency fire area closure (Order Number 04-09-10-F): The area is closed starting at the junction of Forest Road (FR) 538D and 538, east along FR 538D to FR 231A, southeast along FR 231A to FR 231, southeast to FR539, west along FR539 to FR 6249, west 1.5 miles to power line, southwest along the power line to the Taylor Cabin Trail, northwest to Winter Cabin Trail, northeast along Winter Cabin Trail to the Kelsey Springs trail junction, east to the junction of FR 538 and 538D. Kelsey Springs, Taylor Cabin and Winter Cabin trails are closed. The following roads will remain open for thru traffic only: FR 231A, 231, and 538D. This order became effective at 6:00 AM, August 21, 2009, and will remain in force until September 21, 2009 or until rescinded. Today's strategy: At 0600 Saturday morning, Denny Nelson's team will turn the fire over to a Type 3 fire management team from the Coconino NF. Crews will continue to improve containment lines, patrol, and mop up. Summary: Yesterday fire crews continued to improve containment lines. Full containment of the fire is expected on or before August 30, 2009. There is a threat of falling trees in the burned area. ###
