Williams Creek Fire
Idleyld Park, OR - Firefighters completed the burnout operation on Wednesday. On Thursday the entire fire enters the mop-up phase. Crews have already eliminated hot spots from 50 to 300 feet along the fire line. Crews will take full advantage of cooler and moister weather today as they prepare for hotter and drier weather to come. Hand-held infra-red scanners are being used on the ground to identify remaining hot spots. Water bars are being constructed where needed to prevent erosion along constructed fire trails
Weather permitting, helicopters will be used today to replace power poles that were damaged by the fire.
Students and faculty from the University of Montana are at fire camp today to conduct research on firefighter fatigue and the effects of working in a smoky environment.
The 8386-acre fire, located 15 miles east of Glide, Oregon, is now 75% contained.
