Williams Fire Update - Monday, August 10, 2009
Incident: Williams Creek Wildfire

Williams Creek Fire
Glide, OR - Yesterday's weather conditions helped firefighters make preparations for burnout operations in the northwest corner of the fire area and secure containment lines along the southern and eastern perimeter. Planning and implementation has begun for the repair of fire-suppression activities in burned areas. Today, contract helicopters will be used by Pacific Corps Power to replace fire-damaged utility poles.
Firefighters are continuing to mop-up and prepare for burnout operations in anticipation of warmer and drier weather conditions forecasted for the beginning of the week. Helicopters will use aerial ignition systems to complete burnout operations and reduce unburned fuels that remain between the active fire front and firelines.
Drivers are encouraged to use caution and common sense while driving the reopened section of Hwy 138 between MP 29 and MP 39 due to the potential for fire-related hazards and the presence of fire crews and equipment. The enforceable speed has been temporarily reduced to 45 mph; and law enforcement personnel will be present during fire suppression activities. Temporary barriers remain along turn-outs to prevent vehicles from stopping in the fire area.
