Williams Creek Fire

Glide, OR - Firefighters are working to prepare for burnout operations when weather and fuel moisture conditions permit. Safety zones have been constructed and approved, fire hose has been laid out and charged with water and mop-up is continuing along the fire perimeter. Fire activity is expected to increase as the temperature continues to warm and humidity drops.

Snag and hazard tree removal and mop-up is continuing along the Pacific Corps power lines. Replacement power line poles will be installed with the use of Pacific Corps contracted helicopters today.

Traffic has resumed along Highway 138 and barriers have been placed along turn-outs to prevent parking and stopping in the fire area. Law enforcement personnel are present to manage traffic and control speeds. Increased traffic is expected on the weekend as recreationists take advantage of ideal summer weather.

Closures from the Williams Creek Fire:

Closure orders were implemented yesterday to protect the public in areas of helicopter activities. The Umpqua River is closed between Bogus Creek Boat Launch for three miles until the confluence of Thunder Creek. The North Umpqua Trail # 1414 is closed beginning at it's junction with Cougar Trail # 1507, to the confluence of Thunder Creek and the Umpqua River. Bogus Creek Boat Launch and Fall Creek picnic areas are also closed.

The following closures are still in effect. The Williams Creek and Bogus Creek Campgrounds. FS Trails 1513 & 1514 (Williams Creek), Williams Creek Camp Roads (4710-480), Rock Creek Road (8 miles from Hwy 138 beginning at the East Fork Junction) and Canton Road, Scaredman Creek Campground on BLM, plus an area closure west & north of the fire.
