For Immediate Release - August 1, 2009
Glide, Oregon-The Williams Creek Fire which is burning 18 miles east of Glide continues to grow and spread. This has prompted the Roseburg District Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to implement road and area closures.
In the interest of the public and firefighters safety, the Roseburg District BLM office has closed the following areas effective immediately:
- Scaredman Campground (T 25S, R1W, Section 24)
- All BLM administered lands in:
- T.24 S, R 1 W., Section 1 - 36,
- T.25 S, R 1 W., Section 1 - 36,
- T.25 S, R 2 W., All BLM lands east of Rock Creek, and
- T.26 S, R 2 W., All BLM lands north of Highway 138
BLM closed roads include all BLM roads within the closed/restricted areas described above.
- Access will be restricted using road guards one mile above Rock Creek Campground at the junction of the Rock Creek Road (26-3-1.0) and East Fork Rock Creek Road (25-2-11.0).
- Access at the top of Rock Creek Road and Canton Creek Road will also be restricted and staffed by road guards.
At this time, Millpond, Lone Pine, and Rock Creek BLM Campgrounds remain open to the public.
DATES: This closure will be in effect indefinitely from the date of signature and further notice.

EXEMPTIONS: Special situations may exist for public access through the closure on Rock Creek and Canton Creek Roads which will be accommodated by permit available at the Roseburg BLM, the Umpqua National Forest, or Douglas Forest Protective Association. Permits will be required until further notice.
