Released: 7/31/2009
ATTENTION: Special Advisory for Knight Wildland Fire burning on the Stanislaus National Forest. (Mi-Wok Ranger District):
Due to the complex fire suppression operations on the Knight Wildland Fire, several roads and recreational areas are being affected as firefighters continue burn-out operations.
Public and firefighter safety remain the highest priority!
Fire Managers are urging the public to assist in the fire fight by giving fire operations the safe space they need to keep up with the Knight Fire. Critical burn-out operations have begun and will continue throughout the weekend!!
This means that Crandall Peak Staging Area & Sand Bar Flat Campground WILL NOT BE ACCESSIBLE to the public!
Cautionary road signs are now being placed in many areas and no one will be allowed to pass through Spring Gap. Signs will be posted from Highway108 at the Forest Road 4N01 (Fraser Flat). This advisory affects the East end of access road 4N14 (Beardsley) and the Southwest end of access road 4N16 (Italian Bar). Signs are posted and OHV, motorcycles, or any vehicular travel will be unavailable to the public on any of those roads.
Again, regardless of your travel into the area, no-one will be allowed through past Spring Gap. Crandall Staging is full of heavy equipment and hotshot crews. Sand Bar Flat Campground is also being used by fire operations!
PLEASE BE SAFE out there! Allow our firefighters to get this job done efficiently and safely this weekend. We truly need your help! If you need assistance, feel free to call the Knight Fire Information Office at 866-613-3164, 877-217-1081 or 877-216-2199. Thanks for the public support!
