Final Forks Fire Update

Inyo National Forest Fire Information:

Fire Status: Active

Location: Bishop Creek Drainage Date Started: July 18, 2009

12 miles West of Bishop Percent Contained: 90%

Acres Burned: 3,268 Containment Expected: 7/24/2009

Cause: Under Investigation

Resources: Hand crews 11 Engines 15

Helicopters on standby

Total personnel assigned to fire: 436

This evening, one Strike Team of Engines will be working on the fire until midnight. Following that, a patrol will monitor the fire. A firefighter presence will continue until all suppression work is completed. Rehabilitation efforts will focus on minimizing effects of firefighting on the land.

At 6pm on Thursday, 6/23/09, the Forks Fire will be declared 100% contained.

Excess crews and equipment are being demobilized and will be available to assist in other firefighting efforts.

The public is advised to proceed with caution when traveling on State Route 168 due to the presence of firefighters and equipment and the possibility of falling rocks and debris.

Southern California Incident Management Team #2 is turning over the Forks Fire back to the Inyo National Forest. The management team will transition to a smaller Type 3 organization from the Inyo National Forest on 7-24-09. Team 2 appreciates the opportunity to serve. This will be the last Forks Fire update provided by the Fire Team. Information on the Forks Fire are still available at the fire information number listed below.
