Kootenai Creek Fire Update - 10/2/09

Incident: Kootenai Creek Wildfire
Released: 10/2/2009

Kootenai Creek Fire Update

October 2, 2009

With weather predictions of cooler temperatures, lower snow levels and more precipitation over the weekend, the Bitterroot's fire season may finally be winding down. However, with the amount of fire on the landscape, especially on the Kootenai Creek fire, people should expect to continue to see some smoke until longer-term cold and wet weather truly puts the fire out.

On the Kootenai Creek Fire, crews continue to work on hot spots and mop-up. Beginning a few days ago, additional fire fighting and resource crews began the rehabilitation of fire lines and addressing other impacts that resulted from the fire fighting activities. Forest crews will also assess any need for burned area rehabilitation work. Fire personnel will remain active on this fire until a season ending weather event occurs. All closures related to the Kootenai Creek Fire have been lifted except the closure on the Kootenai Creek Trail. The Kootenai Creek Trail remains temporarily closed to public use.
