Indian Fire Grows to 186 Acres, Continues to Meet Objectives

The Indian Fire on the Tusayan Ranger District has grown to 186 acres and continues to meet forest managers' objectives of enhancing wildlife habitat, improving forest health, and reducing the risk of large, destructive wildfires in the future. The Indian Fire was started by lightning June 17 and has been growing slowly ever since. Fire managers have established boundaries within which the Indian Fire is burning through pinyon/juniper, ponderosa pine and grass. The Indian Fire is located about five miles southeast of Tusayan and immediately south of Forest Road 688. With chances of rain predicted over the next several days, the fire isn't expected to grow much. Smoke will continue to be visible as the fire slowly spreads within established boundaries.
