Firefighters Receive Additional Resources for the Meadows Fire
REDDING, Calif. - Smokejumpers, eight hand crews, additional engines, water tenders and air tankers have been ordered and are arriving on the Meadow Fire this morning. This new fire, located about five miles east of McCloud Reservoir in the McCloud Ranger District, was reported yesterday shortly before 6:00 p.m. by personnel at the Siskiyou Bear Lookout on the Shasta-Trinity National Forest. As of 8 a.m. this morning the fire was reported to be about 35 acres in size and burning underneath a major power transmission line operated by the Transmission Agency of Northern California (TANC). The power line has been de-energized.
Because of winds and approaching darkness, attempts to drop smokejumpers on the fire last night were not possible. An air tanker made successful retardant drops on the fire before returning to the tanker base in Redding. Engines, crews and a dozer responded to the fire location last night but were unable to fight the fire in steep, inaccessible terrain.
Power line representatives have been notified and are sending personnel to the scene to evaluate the situation. The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time.
