Industrial Fire Precaution Moves to Level II
Public-Use Restrictions Lifted on Umpqua National Forest

ROSEBURG, OREGON - September 3, 2008 - Effective Thursday, September 4,
all areas within the boundaries of the Umpqua National Forest will enter
an Industrial Fire Precaution Level (IFPL) II with a rating of high fire
danger. Effective Friday, September 5, there are no public-use
restrictions for the Umpqua National Forest.

Precaution level II, or "partial hoot-owl", prohibits blasting, welding,
cable yarding or the use of power saws except at loading sites, from
1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The restrictions apply to all contractors and
permit holders working on the Umpqua National Forest, including those
with permits to cut personal-use firewood. While the industrial fire
precaution level doesn't apply to recreation users, visitors are
encouraged to be cautious with fire while in the woods.

"Although we're lifting public-use restrictions for people to build
campfires on the forest, we still have a good month of fire season
left," said Joe Linn, natural resource and fire staff officer for the
Umpqua National Forest. "With people headed into the woods to hunt, fish
or gather mushrooms, we want them to be careful about their actions."
