Lonesome Complex Announcement

Where Do The Animals Go?

Incident: Lonesome Complex Wildfire
Released: 10/1/2008

Where do the animals go during and after the wildfire

Wildlife moves away from fire areas during active burning, however they usually do not move far. Fires often burn in a mosaic pattern, creating new habitat and opening up previously wooded areas. Dead standing snags will become new homes for woodpeckers, osprey's and eagles among many other animals. New meadows will become grazing areas for animals such as deer and elk.
