Whitebark News Release

Fire Smoldering After Snow and Rain

Incident: Whitebark Prescribed Fire
Released: 8/26/2008

The Whitebark fire was seen smoldering on Tuesday, Aug. 26 by a Forest Service observer who hiked to the fire. The area where the fire is burning got snow and rain last night. And the fire is burning is such rugged terrain that it was difficult to hike around it to map it.

The fire has been seen in Philipsburg and Moose Lake, however smoke on Aug. 25 that laid down in those areas is thought to have come from fires in southwest Idaho, not the Whitebark fire.
