FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

STANFORD, MT - The Russian Flats Fire was started by lightning and reported on August 2, 2008. It is burning along Ettien Ridge, approximately 27 miles southwest of Stanford, MT. The fire is 743 acres and 90 percent contained, as of Saturday evening. One 20-person handcrew, supported by several engines, will continue to mop up the hot spots, until fully contained. Afternoon scattered showers and thunderstorms continue to help the fire suppression efforts.

Closure of the South Fork Judith River Road (Forest Road 487) and a Special Closure Order around fire area will remain in effect through today. Adjustment to the closures will be assessed after today. For information on the fire and changes in the closures, contact the Judith Ranger District Office at 406-566-2292.
