Guests Temporarily Depart Two Lodges to Facilitate Firefighting
Highway Remains Open
The owners of Absaroka and Elephant Head Lodges are asking their guests and employees to leave the area for at least several hours. This will ensure individuals' safety. In addition the evacuations will ensure access for firefighting equipment.
The Gunbarrel Fire has moved south to within half a mile of both lodges. More than 70 firefighters have been working in the area all day. Currently they are turning on firefighting sprinklers and otherwise implementing the preparations they have been making for days.
The North Fork Highway (Highways 14-16-20) between Cody Wyoming and Yellowstone remains open. There is no expectation that the road will be closed due to firefighting operations. Delays are possible, however. Sightseeing trips to the area are strongly discouraged because heavy traffic hinders busy firefighters. Sheriffs officers and/or pilot cars are expected to be in the area.
Updates will be emailed from gunbarrelfire@gmail.com as they become available. If you wish to receive these updates and did not receive this update via email, send a request to be added to the distribution list.
