Lindbergh Lake Fire Mapped at 104 Acres
July 23, 2008, 9:00am, Condon, Montana - Fire officials have mapped the Lindbergh Lake Fire at 104 Acres and confirm it has not crossed into the wilderness. Heavy rain last night and cooler temperatures today will go a long way toward helping fire crews get a handle on the fire although officials are not calling it controlled at this time. "We must have gotten over a half an inch of rain on the fire last night," said Brad Gillespie, Fire Behavior Analyst from the Flathead National Forest. "We can expect the fire behavior today to be quite benign," he added but cautioned crews to watch out for possible thunderstorms and high winds later this afternoon.
Hand crews were pulled off of the mountain before dark last night due to the slippery conditions caused by the rainfall and the plan is to continue direct attack today. Crews are continuing line construction around the fire, concentrating on the right flank. The extremely steep terrain and falling snags are the greatest challenges as crews work to complete a line around the fire and mop up the interior. One type 1 hand crew and five type 2 hand crews along with 15 Missoula Smokejumpers remain on the fire today.
All closures remain in effect.
