Cactus Fire Mapped at 518 Acres

Incident: Cactus Wildfire
Released: 7/22/2008

Due to more accurate mapping, fire officials have reported the Cactus Fire at 518 acres. Containment remains at 65%.

A thunder cell passed over the fire area last evening, resulting in strong downdraft winds. One spot, 1/2 acre in size, was reported outside the perimeter on the southern end. Crews quickly contained the spot and monitored the area.

Interior pockets of fuel continue to smolder. Crews, assisted by helicopters, will work to clean up and strengthen the containment lines.

The cause of the fire, reported on July 19th, is still under investigation.
