Cactus Fire Update - July 21, 2008

Incident: Cactus Wildfire
Released: 7/21/2008

Firefighters, assisted by helicopters, worked to complete a handline around the Cactus Fire. No perimeter growth was reported; however, interior pockets of fuel continued to burn throughout the day. Containment of the 650-acre fire is estimated at 65%. Resources assigned to the fire include 2 helicopters, 3 crews, 4 engines, 2 water tenders and 165 total personnel.

Rick Kusicko's Northern Rockies Type 2 Incident Management Team is overseeing the fire suppression efforts. The Incident Command Post has been established at Whitehall High School. For information regarding the Cactus Fire, visit http://inciweb.org/incident/1432/.

The closure on the Hot Springs Road from State Highway #2 to Pipestone has been lifted. The Cactus Flats and Toll Mountain roads and the OHV route that connects to the Whiskey Gulch Trailhead remain closed for public safety.

The cause of the fire, reported on July 19th, is still under investigation.
