FIRE ACTIVITY SUMMARY: Acreage of the Cold Springs Fire is currently 7980 with 98% containment. Expected date of containment is August 1, 2008. Within the perimeter, the fire continues to smolder and creep with heavy dead and down fuels. Firefighters will continue aggressive mop up and cold trailing 300 to 500 feet within the perimeter. Patrol and initial attack support is ongoing. Air support will be back-hauling equipment from the line. Aerial infrared monitoring of hot spots continues as standard practice. Current infrared mapping showed no hot spots. It is expected that in some areas of the fire, smoldering and creeping will continue until a season ending event occurs in the form of rain or snow. Acres of fire by ownership remains at: Yakama Indian Reservation, 1563; Gifford Pinchot National Forest, 4670; Hancock Forest Management, 643; Washington DNR, 1104.
WEATHER: Winds will be WSW at 3 mph gusting to 10 today. Cooler more humid weather will continue with highs in the high 70's. Humidities will be in the mid thirties.
CHANGE OF FIRE COMMAND: On Friday, July 25, 2008, the Central Oregon Incident Management Team, led by IC Mark Rapp, will transfer command of the Cold Spring to a Type III Incident Management Team lead by IC Alan Lawson. Fire personnel will be reduced to around 200 to continue mop up and patrol.
CLOSURES: Gifford Pinchot National Forest. The following campgrounds are closed: Cold Springs, Morrison, Mt Adams, Horse Camp. Road Closures include FS 80, 82, 8040 east of the 23 at the forest boundary. Trails now closed include: Stagman Ridge, Salt Creek, Buck Creek, Cold Springs, Crofton Ridge, Morrison, Snipes Mountain. Yakama Nation closures include: Bird Creek, Mirror Lake, and Bench.

COOPERATING AGENCIES: USDA Forest Service, Yakama Nation, Yakama BIA, Washington Department of Natural Resources, Yakima and Kickitat County Sheriff's Dept, Skamania Sheriff' Dept., WA-SES, WA-YAA. Hancock Forest Management has contributed significantly in cooperation with the Department of Natural Resources for suppression on industrial forest lands.
