FIRE ACTIVITY SUMMARY: Acreage of the Cold Springs Fire is currently 7980 with 90% containment. The fire continues to smolder and creep with heavy dead and down fuels in the interior. Firefighters will continue aggressive mop up and cold trailing of the perimeter 300 to 500 feet within the perimeter with initial attack support as requested. A type I helicopter assigned to the Cold Springs Fire assisted with initial attack on the Mt. Hood Fire yesterday. The Mt. Hood Fire was arrested at 10 acres.
The Sheep Lake Fire is expected to be contained today. Rappeller firefighters were airlifted from the north side of Mt. Adams yesterday. Acreage is less than an acre. The Big Lava Fire, located at the southern end of Big Lava Bed is expected to be fully contained today. Acreage is estimated at 15 acres. Fire crews are working to minimize any fire growth in the difficult, boot-eating volcanic terrain. The cause of these fires remains unknown.

WEATHER: Winds will be WSW at 7 mph gusting to 20 today. Cooler more humid weather will continue with highs in the low 70's. Humidities will be 40 - 50%,

CHANGE OF FIRE COMMAND: On Friday, July 25, 2008, the Central Oregon Incident Management Team will transfer command of the Cold Spring, Sheep Lake, and Big Lava Fire to a Type III Incident Management Team lead by IC Alan Lawson.

CLOSURES: Gifford Pinchot National Forest. The following campgrounds are closed: Cold Springs, Morrison, Mt Adams, Horse Camp. Road Closures include FS 80, 82, 8040 east of the 23 at the forest boundary. Trails now closed include: Stagman Ridge, Salt Creek, Buck Creek, Cold Springs, Crofton Ridge, Morrison, Snipes Mountain. For more information, please contact 509.395.3402. State of Washington Department of Natural Resources campground closures include: Bird Creek and Island. Yakama Nation closures include: Bird Creek, Mirror Lake, and Bench.

FIRE CAMP LOCATION: Trout Lake School. HELIBASE: Trout Lake Airport.

COOPERATING AGENCIES: USDA Forest Service, Yakama Nation, Yakama BIA, Washington Department of Natural Resources, Yakima and Kickitat County Sheriff's Dept, Skamania Sheriff' Dep, WA-SES, WA-YAA. Hancock Forest Management has contributed significantly in cooperation with the Department of Natural Resources for suppression on industrial forest lands.
